## Engineering case studies

- **Memory leak in an upload agent:** traced stalled image renders to agent modules being re-executed before every task, which reset a module-level process handle and leaked one rclone server per uploaded file (642 processes, ~12 GB). Fixed with process-level state and tagged child processes, plus a rule to audit the whole process tree after any memory fix.
- **Crash- and refresh-safe uploads (contributor):** a tokenless desktop agent that pauses at API boundaries and saves durable run state; runs resume after restarts without duplicating uploads; live progress pushed over WebSocket instead of polling.
- **WebP migration across five repositories (contributor):** gated so legacy data is an exact no-op, with face recognition kept working on HD JPEGs.
- **CloudFront signed cookies:** replaced per-object signed URLs with per-booking signed cookies, shipped as four small commits behind a feature flag that is off by default.

## How he works

Measures before assuming; gates migrations so old data is a no-op; writes a spec before code; keeps diffs small and behind flags; parses structured values (paths, URLs, versions, dates) instead of string-matching; tests near-miss inputs; uses AI coding agents with review and safety guardrails.
